Astraea is a delightful, bubbly, full of energy, 4-year-old little girl. She has a condition called Smith- Magenis Syndrome, which is a chromosome deficiency, and Global Developmental Delay. Astraea can verbally communicate however you will need to learn how to recognise her vocabulary as it can be unclear at times due to her language barriers. Astraea can become dysregulated if her needs are not understood and met adequately and in a timely manner for her, this can be a slight response or it can escalate to more challenging behaviours including hurting herself, but this not a regular occurrence. Chew buddies and distraction methods are used to regulate. Astraea uses a specialist buggy when out to keep her safe as she has no awareness of danger, she also has a specialist feeding plan due to difficulties in swallowing so you must be able to manage feed times following the instructed plan.

Astraea is looking for a dedicated, experienced personal assistant who can accompany her to activities that she enjoys, including swimming, trips to the local parks, Tim Lamb Centre sessions and The Alan Shearer Centre. She really enjoys sensory stimulating environments and particularly enjoys the Baltic Centre sensory rooms. Astraea enjoys engaging with animals so farm trips or Jesmond Dene Pets Corner would be a great place for her.

Astraea enjoys music and likes something a bit “Jazzy” and dancing. She loves a good story with her vast collection of books, and she enjoys baking and painting. Astraea has a great sense of humour and likes to see the funny in everything.

Routine and planning are key in preparing Astraea for any events to prevent dysregulation, and if she has an idea of what is going to be happening, she is keen to engage.

Personal care will be expected in this role regarding toileting.

Finley is a happy, energetic and boisterous boy who has a great sense of humour and a huge smile. Finley has diagnosis of Global Developmental Delay and Autism. He is non-verbal but can make his needs known in various ways such as taking someone’s hand and leading them to an item he wants.
