Purpose of Job

My son is a happy 11-year-old who loves slapstick humour. He really enjoys being outside just about anywhere if there are interesting things for him to see and he is on the move. He likes going to Newcastle to look at the shops and to watch the street musicians just as much as going out to the coast or going to parks, National Trust properties, museums, and places like Beamish. Other activities that he enjoys are going to the Alan Shearer centre, especially the hydro pool as he loves swimming and trampolining. He is always happy to try new things and broaden his interests. My son also enjoys eating out, his favourite place is Kentucky fried chicken for popcorn chicken and coleslaw. He also likes to travel on metros and buses.

Your role will be to support him to do the things that he enjoys either out in the community or in the home. This may be working alongside me and us both taking him out or you are supporting him by yourself. When he’s at home he loves books and really enjoys listening to stories, he also loves music and watching his favourite programs on T.V (not for too long though!) and messy play.

My son needs help with all aspects of daily living. He mainly communicates using Pecs’s symbols and Makaton signs to tell you what he wants and needs. He can use some words and can understand things being said to him if it is put to him in a very direct and simple way

Rates of pay: £13.00 per hour.

I’m looking for a Personal Assistant to support my daughter Erin who is 10 years old. Erin is a happy, smiley, lovely little girl who loves to dance and listen to music. Erin is a fan of Peppa Pig and loves looking at books and magazines.

I would like a PA to take Erin out to do some different activities. This will include going to the Tim Lamb and Alan Shearer centre. Erin may also try horse riding in the future as I think this will be something she’ll enjoy.

Erin has a condition called Phelan-McDermid syndrome, which is a rare genetic disorder that affects the development and function of the brain and body. Erin has little awareness of danger, so a Personal Assistant will need to be vigilant at all times. On occasion, Erin uses a wheelchair so you will need to be physically able to push this. You will initially spend time with me learning how best to communicate and support Erin as she is non-verbal.

A driver with clean licence is essential for this post.

There is a genuine occupational requirement for the holder of this post to be male/female in accordance with the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 and Equality Act 2010.
