Job Title: Personal Assistant

Location:  Newcastle upon Tyne (Kenton area)

Hours:  5 hours per week to be used flexibly

The purpose of this job is to support my son. Your job will be to provide him with the personal and social assistance that he needs. My son can be nervous in unfamiliar places and may want to hold hands with the person supporting him.  My son can be very determined if there is something that he wants, wants to do, or doesn’t want to do and it can be challenging distracting him or persuading him against something. He also has no awareness of danger and will run, very quickly, towards something that catches his attention.

As my son’s Personal Assistant, you will work under my direction to meet his needs and will be accountable to me in all aspects of your work.  You must be reliable, be able to use your initiative and be able to work flexible hours.  You must also be able to respect our privacy and have an understanding of the need for confidentiality in all areas of your work.

Daniel is a delightful happy 12-year-old lad with a great smile who lives with his dad in the west end of Newcastle. He loves being active and likes to be out and about and enjoys going to the beach, trampolining, swimming, and going to the park especially being on the swings. Daniel also loves travelling on public transport whether it’s the buses or the Metro. He is a big fan of water and is happiest spending time in his hot tub at home. Daniel is very stimulated with cause-and-effect games for example, when at the beach he loves to throw stones in the water just to see the splash.

Daniel has epilepsy which occurs in clusters and training will be provided to pre-empt these. He also has vestibular sensory balance which simply, makes him feel as if he is at sea constantly, he is also non-verbal, but he understands what you say and claps to communicate. Daniel has no awareness of danger, and the PA will constantly need to be vigilant when with him and on occasions use his reins.

Ideally, dad would like a PA who is enthusiastic with a genuine interest and enjoyment in working with children and has some experience of working with disabled children.
