We are looking for a patient, enthusiastic and pro-active Personal Assistant to join an existing team to support my 12-year-old son. He is a happy boy who has learning disabilities and is non-verbal.  The main part of this role is to support with going out and about and taking our son to some of his favourite places like the park or the beach.   A very important part of your role will be to ensure his safety at all times.  Due to the nature of my sons seizures you will work at all times alongside another PA or a member of the family.

If you have previous experience of working with children, children with epilepsy or have CPR training this would be advantageous.  However we are happy to consider applicants with no prior experience.

Car owner/driver is preferred but not essential.

Joshua is a lovely 12-year-old young boy with a diagnosis of Autism with learning difficulties and a chromosome disorder.

He loves spending time at home with his siblings playing with his animals and using his iPad. Joshua is looking for a personal assistant who can support and accompany him to explore his community facilities and encourage his social engagement, he would like to explore places like the local parks and swimming pools, he loves to walk the dogs too, so a good level of fitness is required. Joshua would also like to go for the odd hot chocolate when the occasion arises.

The family are looking for a personal assistant with experience of working with children with Autism who is calm, patient and encouraging, Joshua will repeat words and behaviours frequently so you must be able to accommodate his repetitiveness. Assistance with toileting needs is required in this role.

A car driver is preferred as Joshua has a Motability car and loves to be out and about in it.

To assist with a variety of tasks which will enable the person who needs care and support to live their personal and social life according to their wishes and interests.

 

About the employer:

Shannon has Foetal Alcohol Syndrome and has Global Developmental Delay, she is more like a 5 year old as she is severe globally developmentally delayed.  Shannon loves to be in her own little world, singing and dancing are her favourite things to do.  Out of the house Shannon enjoys going to the cinema to watch children’s films especially ones with music.  She would like to go out with her PA to the cinema, the park and McDonalds.

Shannon has no sense of danger or awareness of strangers and requires supervision at all times for her safety.  Shannon needs prompting with things like putting her coat and shoes on.  You will need to use your car to take Shannon to activities of her choice, mileage will be paid.

Job title:​  Social Personal Assistant

Hours:​  6 hours term time, 10 hours holiday time, 2- or 3-days weekdays after school and a Saturday once a month

Location: Throckley, Newcastle upon Tyne

Rates of pay​: £14.00 per hour

 

Purpose of Job

Imogen is a very happy and lovely 4-year-old little girl who lives with her mum and dad and her little sister. Imogen is very playful and lovable with a great sense of humour. She loves playing shops and role models at home. Imogen loves to get out and about and likes swimming, visits to the park and the Alan Shearer centre. She can easily get fatigued at times but is happy to curl up on the sofa and watch a movie, Frozen being one of her favourites.

Imogen is verbal mainly at home but is currently learning Makaton. She has complex health needs and has a diagnosis of Polymicrogyria (a condition that affects the development of the human brain by multiple small gyri (microgyria) creating excessive folding of the brain leading to an abnormally thick cortex).

Imogen has also been diagnosed with associated conditions, namely: epilepsy, cerebral palsy and two brain tumours.  Due to Imogen’s epilepsy, it is important that the PA working with her are trained to manage her seizure activity and able to administer her emergency medication rectal paraldehyde if needed. Training will be provided

Ideally, we are seeking a PA with some experience of working with children, who are enthusiastic with a genuine interest and enjoyment in working with children.
