Hours: 24 hours per week (Friday & Sunday 7:30am-7:30pm)

Area: Killingworth, Newcastle Upon Tyne

Rate: £15.00 per hour

Oakley is a delightful 2-year-old little boy who was born at 36 weeks gestation. He currently resides with his mum and siblings who all attend school. Due to the complexity of Oakley’s health issues the family are looking for an experienced Personal Assistance with experience in children with complexed health needs. Full training in specific duties relating to Oakley’s needs will be provided via Oakley’s mum and hospital staff. Oakley has round-the-clock care, and you would be joining an existing team of personal assistants to ensure Oakley’s needs are always met. Your role would include supporting Oakley’s mum in domestic tasks, laundry duties and assistance in caring for Oakley’s siblings when required.

Following a sleep study Oakley showed oxygen desaturation and pauses in breathing. Oakley requires BIPAP overnight and for daytime naps.  (Pressure controlled ventilation in a system allowing unrestricted spontaneous breathing at any moment of the ventilatory cycle.)

Oakley has a nasal stent in place which must be replaced immediately if it blocks or dislodges. Oakley is encouraged to feed orally with a weaning diet but due to his cleft palate, frequently regurgitates his food out through his stent, suction must be provided immediately to maintain the patency of the stent and his airway when this occurs. Oakley currently does not take enough feed orally, so a proportion is administered enterally either by pump or gravity.

Oakley desaturates when he is unwell or asleep so is always attached to a pulse oximeter. Oakley’s eye lids do not fully shut so this is the only way to know if Oakley is in a deep sleep. Oakley must be attached immediately to BIPAP when he is asleep to prevent desaturations and maintain his respiratory function. Two people are required to attach Oakley to BIPAP due to his metal work on his head.

Oakley has global developmental delay and has a physiotherapy programme which must be followed to promote his development. As Oakley’s Carer/assistant you would be involved in administering this physiotherapy programme to Oakley.

Specialist Training will be provided for this role.

Car driver essential

I am a 40-year-old woman seeking a Personal Assistant (PA) to support me due to an energy-limiting disability. The role is focused on assisting me with some aspects of everyday life and supporting me to be an active parent to my 6-year-old son. My husband is also registered as my carer and at times the PA will provide support while he’s working or having respite.

Summary of role:

This is a permanent post available for immediate start, with an allowance of 5.6 weeks annual leave.

Shifts would be negotiated with plenty of notice and some flexibility, usually within the following pattern:

Hold a clean UK driving licence and be confident driving me and my son to places. (It’s not necessary for the PA to have their own vehicle as I will insure them on my car).

Each month:

4 hours of supporting me as a parent on a Saturday or Sunday. This could be negotiated as one shift or two.

In school holidays the above is usually adjusted, so more of the hours are used for supporting me as a parent and less is used for household tasks. Sometimes more hours are available in school holidays depending on family circumstances.

This post is subject to a satisfactory DBs check and references which will be taken up if you are offered the post.

Purpose of Job

My son is a happy and lovely easy going 10-year-old who loves to be active. He really enjoys being outside just about anywhere whether it is walking in the park especially Exhibition Park where he delights in playing in the sandpit or going to the beach and messing around in the water.

Other activities that he enjoys are going trampolining or the Tim Lamb Centre. He likes to listen to dance music and observing people dance.

My son has been diagnosed with Autistic Spectrum Disorder. He also has some sensory processing difficulties which impact on his ability to independently engage in activities therefore it is important that he is supported in participating in any activity. The purpose of this job will be to provide him with social assistance and assisting him in achieving his goals, ensuring his safety at all times.

Purpose of Job

I am looking to employ a Personal Assistant to work with my 9-year-old son. He is a friendly boy who is very active and loves being outside. He likes to play on the trampoline, going to the park, he loves swimming, bowling, and visiting soft play.

He has learning and communication difficulties, and Autism.  He therefore requires constant supervision whilst out and about in the community.

The main part of this role is to support and supervise my son when he wants to access the local community, as well as social interaction at home. He has minimum understanding and hates loud noise, so it is important to keep him focussed to avoid any distress, which can be triggered in many ways.  Experience of working with Autistic children would be preferred.

A very important part of your role will be to ensure his safety.  He has no awareness of danger, so you must take extra care when you are out in the community.

My son likes to be around happy enthusiastic people so you should be confident and outgoing.   As the Personal Assistant you will work under my direction to meet my son’s needs.
