We are currently seeking a personal assistant for a 65-year-old gentleman who suffers with semantic dementia which is a rare form of dementia effecting word meaning, face and object recognition and memory.
Terry lives with his wife in Gosforth and is looking for an assistant to accompany him to his favourite venues – his place to be is his local pub where he likes to sit with a drink and enjoy his peace and quiet. Terry is unique in how he chooses to spend his time and has a fixation with time, he relies heavily on his watch and clock to aid him to navigate through the day. It is very important to Terry that specific tasks are carried out at specific times, and he has a strict routine. Terry enjoys his own company and does not engage in chatter or conversation however he will talk a lot about the weather and uses his phone a lot to monitor the weather.
Terry has no understanding of language anymore but does understand actions and repeated patterns. Terry has become socially isolated and may request he sit on his own whilst you simply monitor his safety.
Terry requires someone to accompany him to the pub he likes to walk to, and to sit with him at home and let him enjoy his sudoku, he may require assistance and support to prepare himself drinks and snacks which usually mean chocolate as he is a bit of a chocoholic. Until recently Terry enjoyed swimming but lately, he has not engaged in this activity- if he decided to go back to swimming you would be required to accompany him and wait for him to complete his swimming session.
Terry has no emotional regulation ability now, due to the dementia, and will have no social etiquette when out.
We are looking for a patient, compassionate experienced individual who has knowledge of Dementia.
