Hi my name is Sharmin, I’m a young lady and I’m looking for a support worker to support me with socializing and going out into the community.  I have a visual impairment and I’m registered blind; this means I require assistance to do the things I want to do and to ensure my safety. I’m friendly and chatty and I enjoy spending time with people. I’m looking to be able to have more choice as to where and when I go out to socialize or attend somewhere in my local area.  I enjoy going out for a coffee, going into town shopping, and going for walks. I also enjoy going to the cinema, and when watching a film, if there’s no audio description, you would have to sit through the film and actually describe, so patience is required for my needs.

You should be friendly, flexible with what the work involves and be able to commit up to 21 hours per week, when exactly the hours will be worked will be discussed at interview. As my Support Worker you will work under my direction to meet my needs and will be accountable to me in all aspects of your work.  You should always ask first what my needs are and should always listen to and act on our requests and directions. You must be comfortable guiding me around the community and if I am meeting up with friend.

I would prefer my new personal assistant to be able to drive and to be able to take me in their car, this is not essential. I would prefer you to have experience working with a blind person and have a positive attitude to work and willing to help. You do not have to be physically strong to do the job well.  However, good general health is important.

The post is subject to satisfactory references and Enhanced DBS checks which will be funded by the employer.
