Job Purpose:

  • The role is very much about supporting me within my home
  • To assist me with the tasks that I can no longer perform
  • Mostly support at mealtimes

I currently have a Personal Assistant so, whilst meal responsibilities will be the main role, cover in a caring capacity for holiday or absence would be desirable.  This role would suit a self-employed individual who is currently looking for a few hours to supplement their current commitments. Local to NE5 area would be helpful. Interest from self-employed individuals is preferred

About me:

I am a fiercely independent young lady of 89 years but of late, my physical health has deteriorated and I’m unable to walk unaided.  I’m looking for someone to help me maintain independence in my tidy home which I take great pride in.  As I’m getting older, everyday mobility is becoming slower and more challenging. Practical assistance is needed for meal heating and serving tasks as well as ensuring my medication has been taken.  I’m currently supported by my two daughters and a personal assistant and cleaner. During periods of holiday or leave, there may be more caring/personal assistant/ shopping duties required.

I am looking for someone who has experience of supporting older but ‘young at heart’ individuals. I need someone who is willing/able to take on additional duties during absences of current provision. Some light cleaning may be required at these times.

This assistance is about helping me and my choices, independent living, dignity and pride. My daughters are amazing supporters but both with their own health challenges.

Your role will be essential to maintaining my independence and pride in a clean and tidy home.

Type of person I am looking for:

Values

  • You will be kind, honest, reliable, punctual, non-judgemental.
  • You will have the ability to build good relationships with me, family members and my current care provision, based on trust and respect
  • You will be flexible, adaptable, easy going, able to work alone, positive.
  • You will have a good sense of humour.
  • You will be easy to talk to
  • You will be a good listener
  • You will be encouraging and able to motivate
  • You will understand and respect the need for me to maintain pride in a clean home

Specific Requirements:

  • Must be local to NE5 area, Newcastle due to the current duration of hours
  • Previous experience working in a health or social care setting desirable
  • Good record keeping
  • Good communication
  • Understand the importance of confidentiality in your work
  • Be confident in meal preparation when required
  • You will understand ageing and the frustrating impact this has on personal ability. This may be through personal or professional experience, or you may have had experience in providing support formally or informally for example to a family member.
  • You must have experience of an often, at short notice, change in requirements where more intensive assistance is required
  • Experienced driver with own (easily accessible) vehicle required
  • Enhanced DBS required
  • As there may be personal caring responsibilities, female applicants are preferred.

What you can expect to receive:

  • A friendly working environment
  • Great communication and adaptability to your own needs
  • Some flexibility in and times of shifts

There is a genuine occupational requirement for the holder of this post to be male/female in accordance with the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 and Equality Act 2010 schedule 9 paragraphs 1 – 4.

This vacancy will close as soon as a suitable candidate is appointed.

At the time of starting their employment, the successful candidate must have permission to work in the U.K.
