Exciting Plans for Disability North’s Refurbishment

We’re excited to share that plans for refurbishment work at Disability North are now close to being finalised, with work due to begin in September.

Thanks to a generous grant from The Wolfson Foundation, we are preparing to transform our upstairs space into a modern, accessible, and flexible environment that will better support both our current services and our future ambitions. The upstairs area is currently underused, and the refurbishment will create new opportunities for Disability North to expand its volunteer offering, provide more activity sessions, and host larger external bookings with catering facilities available.

Alongside the upstairs refurbishment, plans are also being developed to improve our downstairs demonstration area. Our aim is to showcase a wide variety of equipment, technology, and practical solutions designed to support disabled people to live more independently, safely, and comfortably in everyday life. Discussions have already taken place with a number of companies about how they can become involved in supplying equipment for the space.

We’re also pleased to announce that Bear & Co, based in North Tyneside, have been commissioned to undertake the refurbishment project. From the very beginning, they have shown genuine enthusiasm not only for the refurbishment itself, but also for Disability North’s longer-term strategy and vision for the future.

Although work has not started yet, there has already been a huge amount of planning taking place behind the scenes, with staff working together to help shape the future of the space ahead of the September start date.

We’re looking forward to sharing more updates as the project develops and are excited to see the transformation begin over the coming months.
