About Meghan

Meghan is a 10-year-old girl who enjoys being out and about in. She loves watching Peppa Pig and Ben and Holly, playing with fidget toys, and spending time at the park. Meghan also enjoys travelling by bus and particularly likes sitting at the back.

Meghan communicates visually and uses non-verbal cues, so it is important that her Personal Assistant takes time to get to know her, understand how she communicates, and respond to her needs in a patient and supportive way.

Meghan always requires 100% attention when being supported. She can act impulsively, especially when out, so her PA must be alert, safety-aware, and able to provide close supervision.

What You Will Be Doing

The role will involve supporting Meghan to access social and fun activities, helping her enjoy new experiences, and providing one-to-one attention and encouragement.

Support may include:

  • Taking Meghan out into the community
  • Trips to the park
  • Fun days out and social enrichment activities
  • Supporting her to try new activities
  • Swimming
  • Visiting places such as the Tim Lamb Centre and Alan Shearer Centre
  • Supporting Meghan with personal care when required
  • Supporting with nutrition, snacks, and drinks
  • Learning and responding to Meghan’s non-verbal and visual communication cues
  • Providing close supervision due to impulsive actions
  • Ensuring Meghan is safe, happy, and engaged at all times

About The Person We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone who is calm, patient, friendly, reliable, and confident supporting a child with additional communication needs. The right person will be attentive, safety-conscious, and willing to build a trusting relationship with Meghan.

Experience of supporting children with additional needs would be helpful, but the most important qualities are kindness, patience, good observation skills, and a willingness to learn how Meghan communicates.
