Personal Assistant -JGRNCL Needed in High Heaton

Hours: 8 hours per week, to be worked flexibly within the following times:

• Weekday evenings: 6:00pm – 9:00pm
• Fridays: 2:00pm – 9:00pm
• Sundays: 10:00am – 4:00pm

The exact days and hours can be agreed with the successful applicant.

Rate of pay: £15.05 per hour

Hi, my name is James and I am looking for a Personal Assistant to support me to access activities and enjoy my free time outside of my Supported internship. I am a positive person who enjoys being active and getting involved in my community. I volunteer at Café Beam at Ouseburn Farm. I enjoy helping others and keeping busy. Some of my favourite activities are swimming, indoor climbing and dancing. I love finding out new facts. I also enjoy dancing and will often break into an impromptu dance.

I have autism and can be quite quiet when I first meet new people or find myself in a new situation. Once I get to know someone and feel comfortable, I become much more confident and chattier. I like routine and structure. If I learn how to do something and can follow a plan, I am usually able to repeat it successfully. I can find unexpected changes difficult and may need support when things do not go according to plan. I can also find it challenging to manage several things at once or make quick decisions in unfamiliar situations.

I can travel independently on public transport when I know where I am going, but I may need support to learn new routes and access unfamiliar places. I need support to stay safe when I am out in the community, as I do not always recognise risks or understand when a situation may not be safe. This can make me vulnerable at times. I am also unable to manage money independently and need support with budgeting, making purchases and handling money when I am out and about.

I am looking for someone who is patient, reliable, friendly and understanding. It is important that you can take the time to get to know me, support me to try new activities, and help me build my confidence and independence while keeping me safe.

• Accessing social, leisure and community activities.
• Attending activities such as swimming, climbing and other interests.
• Exploring new opportunities and experiences.
• Learning new routes and travelling safely.
• Managing money when out in the community.
